Ten Years From Now

This is a two part assignment.

Part I ~ Create a personal business letter that is addressed to me here at school and it is from you. The idea of the letter is that it is ten years from now and you are writing to me to let me know what you are doing and have done since you had keyboarding class with me. Use this as a fun way to dream about what you plan to be doing in ten years. For this part of the assignment you will attach your letter to an email message to me at: pcarr@orcsd.org.

Part II ~ Submit a brief post to the blog about your letter. Just tell us a little bit about what your plans are, and as usual, add something about at least one other post to your comments.

History of Computers

Choose a moment in the history of computers that you think is important. Share the details with us and also tell us why you think this moment in history is so important. Don't forget to comment on what your classmates say too!

Some hints for you on this one. The history of computers has some key people who were very important before the first "real" computer was really ever created. Some people who were important were Charles Babbage, Herman Hollerith, Ada Lovelace just to name a few. Then we moved into the "generations" of computers. Right now there are 5 generations of computers...during each generation there were significant changes and advancements that occurred.

QWERTY

What is the QWERTY keyboard? Why is it called the QWERTY? Give a brief history of the keyboard, why it is designed the way it is, who developed it etc. Then, tell me one other design for keyboards. How is it different from the QWERTY and who uses it? Do you think the QWERTY will always be the design we use or will another design take over? Did you find a great website as a resource? Share it with us!
